This Attachment Makes Your Phone’s Pictures Way Better

“It’s possible to shoot crystal-clear images under moonlight”

Digital imaging company DxO unveiled a new camera on Thursday that plugs into the charging port of an iPhone and captures photos with a crispness and resolution that few smartphones can match.

At 20 megapixels, the DxO ONE packs more than twice the punch of the iPhone 6’s iSight camera. The pocket-sized dongle spans roughly the width of an iPhone and weighs only 3.8 ounces, and excels at capturing images under low light conditions, the company says.

“It’s possible to shoot crystal-clear images under moonlight, which is incredible for a camera this small,” said DxO CEO Jerome Meniere in a statement.

Of course, all of those pint-sized innovations come at a hefty price. The dongle will go on sale this September for $600, which may limit its appeal to hardcore photo enthusiasts with a penchant for moonshots.

Death to the Stock Photo

Where we come from

About a year ago we noticed an less-than-awesome industry pattern: too many extraordinary brands, bloggers, and creatives struggled to find images that fit their vibe + tribe.

Turns out, the solution lay on our laptops. We had files upon files of our own photos gathering dust. We figured: why not spread ‘em around?

So we started sending image packs directly to friends, writers, artists, freelancers, and businesses via email.

The goal? To help more brands create rich digital experiences that elevated their visual aesthetic… without shelling out wads of cash, or their sanity. And the response. was. massive.

As our members list grew, so did our vision. We built some digital digs. A 5-city road-trip happened. We began to include stories with our image packs, so our users would know they came from the heart. We kicked off a premium membership option with total access to 400 photos and counting.

And there is so, so much more to come.

Where we’re going

We love helping creatives live their passion, and do more great work. Now, we’re walking that talk on a bigger, more sustainable scale.

Starting in August 2014, part of our premium membership profits will funnel straight into funding for creative projects around the world. So far, we’ve sent photographers all over the US and Canada to take new shots for our image packs, and handed other talented folks the cash to craft their dream projects in their home cities – with more greatness on the way.

Know someone who’s perfect for our funding project? Want help getting things moving on your next big idea?

Drop us a line. We’ll see what we can do.
